Costs
Training fees start at £1895.00 per academic year for the Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, but in addition to your training fees there are additional costs to meet. We aim to keep our fees as transparent as possible. If you would like to receive a guide to the overall costs for our courses, just email or phone us for a PDF fee guide.
In addition to your training costs, you will need to pay for specialist modules. Supervision is also required throughout your training from the start of your clinical placement. Costs range from £50.00-£55.00 per hour depending on your route and this will be at least fortnightly for most courses, or monthly for some routes. Fees are paid directly to your supervisor in arrangement with them. It is usually possible to get Group Supervision, where up to four students can share the costs, with each hour of shared Supervision counting equally with individual sessions; you will still need to ensure that you meet the requirements set by the appropriate accrediting bodies with which you wish to apply to register on successful completion.
Personal Therapy costs are wide-ranging from £22.00 per session with an intern to £55.00 with an established senior therapist. Group therapy is also an option for those on the weekly DTC Evening Course or for those on specified years.
Personal Indemnity Insurance will need to be set up before you start your clinical practice placement. This can cost from £25 to £90 per year. BACP say its student members can sometimes receive special offers from insurers such as Howdens and Towergate Professional Risks, but take a look around. You will cover this and similar matters in your first training session.
Membership of NGP as a professional body is required for the duration of your training. This costs £60 per annum. You may also wish to hold student membership of the relevant professional bodies – BACP and/or UKCP – costing from £28 - £62 per year. Student membership of the EAC is £15.00 per year.
Books may also be a significant factor in your budget. You will be reading around topics and using texts and articles as reference points when writing essays. Here at the Northern Guild we have a library and master copies of required journal articles available for reference, however there will inevitably be some texts you require throughout the course. Fellow students may also be a good source of relevant second hand books.
The BACP website has further information about costs and funding, and has a useful ‘Fees Calculator’ tool, which may help you when budgeting for your training.
