About
Post Traumatic Embitterment Disorder (PTED) is a new and ground breaking category of diagnosis helpful in understanding the deeper emotional impact of traumatic stress. The person experiences a distinct emotional process which includes enduring feelings of injustice, violation of basic beliefs, intrusion and feelings of embitterment which have a strong impact on their life. PTED is separate and distinct from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Whilst the incidence of PTSD increases in times of danger, PTED is more common in times of social change when the trauma penetrates and violates the sense of self.
The person with PTED is often misunderstood and consequently misdiagnosed. Symptoms arising from feelings of being wronged and the consequent sense of embitterment may be wrongly attributed to a Narcissistic personality structure.
