Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Evening Course)

This Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling is held on an evening basis for those who want to study during the week. It is a cost effective, manageable training course that will enable participants to apply these skills and competencies to their work situation or to begin a career change into professional counselling working with adults. Systems are in place to support and enable graduates to prepare for Registration as a Professional Counsellor with the leading professional bodies.

Evening Course 

Accredited by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) the course will run over two years and will consist of:

 

· Twelve evenings per term (ten evenings in Term 3) from 5.00pm – 9.00 pm 

· Clinical supervision on commencement of placement 

· One Intensive three-day course per year

· Final Assessment Module held over two days

· Personal Development or Personal Therapy

· 150 hours Counselling Practice

· 50 hours Work Based Learning

· Final Assessment Module (undertaken after all practical requirements have been satisfactorily completed, usually within six months of ending the taught course).

 

Entry Requirements

In order to be accepted onto the training programme applicants must have:

· Proven ability to study at a higher educational level. This may take the form of a vocational qualification in a related field, and/or equivalent life and work experience.

· Demonstrate some basic understanding of basic counselling skills.

· Relevant experience of working with people in a responsible role, evidenced by a written reference.

· Suitable personal qualities and a genuine interest in working with people, evidenced by a written reference.

· Willingness to undergo enhanced CRB checks and any other statutory checks required by your placement providers.  

· A personal value system in keeping with the philosophy of the training, including an open attitude towards all people.

We have a policy of flexibility and will be pleased to discuss with candidates whether and how they meet our entry requirements.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

Students may be eligible to enter training at the appropriate level if they have relevant prior learning/experience.

Accreditation

This course is accredited by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy. On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the BACP accredited Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

Entry onto UK Council for Psychotherapy Register

12 months following satisfactory completion of this course, students will be eligible for entry on to the UKCP Register as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.

Students must ensure that prior learning, their period of psychotherapy training and their post accreditation practice comply with UKCP and PCS requirements if they wish to be entered onto and remain on this register. From time to time these requirements change. Please note: completion of a course and/or successful completion of the final assessment does not lead to automatic inclusion on to the UKCP register.
