Internships
In the second term of the training students are required to begin their internship as a trainee counsellor on placement in a professional setting. Most take place in a GP’s surgery or Health Centre. This provides an in depth experience of working as a trainee professional counsellor/psychotherapist in a recognised setting. Over the course of the placement it will, through phases of practice, provide the opportunities to undertake duties expected of a full time professional. This work will be undertaken with the support and guidance of a clinical supervisor and mentor.
Career Prospects
To establish a career and a job in counselling and psychotherapy candidates need to have completed an accredited training course that is recognised by one of the major professional bodies and to have met the criteria laid down by these organisations for professional registration. In the very near future, within a couple of years, it is expected that the profession of counselling and psychotherapy will be State Regulated.
To progress to a higher level of recognition and enhanced career prospects our Masters programme (MSc) will enable you to specialise in your chosen area of interest supporting research and in depth learning.
Our track record of successful graduates who have acquired good jobs and developed very successful interesting careers is a testimony to the dedication of our staff team and of the course design.
