What I am doing now…

Joanne Rubbi

MSc, Diploma in Child Psychotherapy, Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Children & Adolescents)

Upon graduating from the Northern Guild, I became the Child & Adolescent Clinical Lead within the County Durham & Darlington branch of Rape Crisis England & Wales. My role involves working therapeutically with children and young people who have experienced any form of sexual violence and abuse, as well as offering consultancy and training.

My weekly caseload for Rape Crisis also involves working with adult clients in different outreach locations. For example, I work two days a week within Durham University as a specialist Psychotherapist for students or staff who have experienced sexual violence and abuse. I work a further day at Durham Constabulary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) with clients of all ages. Whilst Rape Crisis is predominantly a feminist organisation offering support to female survivors, we do offer therapy to male survivors of sexual violence in outreach locations.

As a result of my work for Rape Crisis, I have gained additional qualifications and accreditations as a professional working within the sector of sexual violence. My work often involves offering pre-trial therapy to child and adult clients who have decided to report to the police, and liaising with other agencies such as the police and CPS. This specialist field of pre-trial therapy inspired the research dissertation for my MSc with the Northern Guild and Newman University.
